My very first piece. What rises here in white is not an invented airplane but the model with which Takuo Toda set the world record for longest time aloft, around 28 seconds in the air. It is the same model I flew at the Swiss championship and the World championship. Shaped from plaster bandages and painted white, the airplane sits sculptural and tangible against a field of black pyramids, styrofoam under a skin of plaster, sprayed metallic black. White against black, soft fold against hard geometry. The simplest contrast imaginable, and the beginning of everything.
